Why does my firewood smell like PUKE?

Just bought some firewood from someone on Craigslist. Out of the truck, it was damp and smelled like puke...I just figured the guy made a dump run beforehand...WRONG. The OAK (supposedly) is two years old (again, SUPPOSEDLY and REEKS.. I can't keep it in my house. OK, I know I got screwed, so no comments on that...just tell me why this wood smells like PUKE!
