What is it really like being a Earth Scientist?

I am an XRD mineralogist and my duty is to interpret X-Ray Spectra and identify which mineral phases exist in the pattern. I do love my job and enjoy doing it. It's really challenging as each sample has a different pattern from another one. My mom was a geology teacher and since childhood I was familiar with rock names and had a wonderful collections of minerals.
